"Ocean Matters" Scholarships for ages 15+

Do you know a deserving high school-aged student (ages 15+) who is interested in marine science and conservation? Ocean Matters is offering partial to full scholarships to accepted applicants to their three-week intensive summer marine biology program in Grand Cayman who demonstrate both need and merit.

The program will be held on the beautiful island of Grand Cayman in the British West Indies, July 7-28, 2011. Through Ocean Matters young people:
·      Become certified in scuba (earn PADI Open Water I, Advanced, and Marine Specialty certifications)?
·      Dive daily on the beautiful coral reef -- whose diversity and abundance of life has earned the reef the title of "rainforests of the sea." ?
·      Design and execute a group monitoring marine biology research project undertaken on scuba.?
·      Learn about the coral reef's biology and ecology through daily interactive classroom sessions.?
·      Identify one hundred reef flora and fauna. ?
·      Contribute to the management of the reef, helping to save this important resource for future generations.?
·      Have fun!

Ocean Matters is a registered 501(c) 3 nonprofit charity. Our staff of marine educators includes seasoned professionals with over 15 years each in education, marine biology and conservation. Our board of directors includes National Geographic Photographer Brian Skerry and Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary.

 Scholarship applications are due April 8 with award announcements to be made on Earth Day, April 22nd.
