FOR CONTINENTAL SOCIETIES, INC. NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Continental Societies, Incorporated is a national organization whose purpose is to promote the economic, educational and social welfare of underserved and disadvantaged children and youth; to enhance their recreational activities; and to promote additional experiences necessary for their optimal development.
The organization awards five Scholarships to deserving young people – one in each of the four regions of the Societies, and one National recipient. Applications MUST be TYPED and submitted to a Chapter Representative. Scholarships are awarded in June.
Applications should be submitted as follows:
ELIGIBILITY
Applicant must be a graduating high school senior attending college for the first time. Applicant must have applied to and been accepted by a four-year college or university.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Each applicant must submit an Essay (500 word minimum). The essay should include the following:

If so, we have great news for you! LEAD is currently accepting applications for our three summer programs: LEAD Business, LEAD Engineering, and LEAD Global.
LEAD Business (SBI): Available for high school juniors with a 3.0 GPA or better who are involved in their schools and communities. Participating universities include: Dartmouth College, Duke University, Northwestern University, Stanford University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania and the University of Virginia. SBIs are 3 to 4 week residential programs that immerse participants in a range of topics from finance and marketing, to e-commerce and entrepreneurship. Application deadline is January 25, 2011.
LEAD Engineering (SEI): Available for high school sophomores and juniors with a 3.2 GPA or better who show great interest in mathematics and the sciences.
Participating universities include California Institute of Technology, University of California, Berkeley, University of Michigan, Villanova University, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Virginia. The SEI curriculum focuses on areas of engineering including electrical, mechanical, civil, computer and civil engineering; associated disciplines such as chemical, biotech, biomolecular, materials science, aerospace, polymer-textile/fiber and technological systems are also studied. Application deadline is January 25, 2011.
LEAD Global (SGI): Available for high school sophomores with a 3.0 GPA who are ready to live and study abroad. The Global program exposes American students to global career opportunities alongside peers from different countries in one program so that all participants might make better informed decisions when choosing a college or profession. A COUPLE OF POINTERS:
1. (#13) Identify the Florida County
2. (#22) Our graduation date is 06/0 6/2011
3. (#23) “In the fall of 2010, I will be classified as: “Freshman, “first time in college”
4. If you don't know what college that you will be attending...enter an in-state school. Remember that Florida Financial Aid and Bright Futures cannot pay for out-of-state colleges.
5. (#25) Ignore #25 because you are graduating from High School.
6. (#26) If you do not know your Weighted / Unweighted GPA, make your closest guess If you r GPA is close to a 3.0 (2.8 or 2.9) put 3.0 anyway. Florida Financial Aid and Bright Futures will get your actual GPA off your official transcript that will be sent by the school.
7. (#29) Be sure to check one of the tests!
8. (#35 & #36) I always recommend that you say “yes” to work-study and “student loans”. You can always deny them later on if you do not need this type of financial aid.
9. (#37) you must authorize your SAT/ACT scores and grades so check yes!

Auditions for "Chicago" January 31 - February 4, 2011

CPR Re-certification 1.21.2011
All students and staff who need to challenge their current certification to renew their card for CPR should report to room 39 on Friday, January 21, 2011 (Teacher Planning Day) from 10 am to noon. The certification card fee is $11.00. Please contact Mrs. Henderickson-Garcia with any questions.

Rally Before Tally - January 19, 2011
The Rally BEFORE Tally will take place on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Jungle Island, located at 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail, Miami, Florida 33132. Its success will be determined by the turnout from our community.
At this event you will have an opportunity to meet with members of the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation. Many newly elected members to serve in Tallahassee will be present, and the rally presents an opportunity for constituents to talk about the future of public education in Florida.
