CONGRATULATIONS TO MAST's GATES MILLENIUM WINNER, Jean Philip Nau!

Congratulations to Raquel Atencio for receiving the Key Biscayne Rotary Club
Paul Kopp Memorial Scholarship Award. Raquel certainly deserves this honor for her academic success and community service.  She had 309 community service hours at MAST!

Congratulations to David Tyburski and Paige Owens. Both were honored as the 2011 Scholar Athletes for MAST Academy.David Tyburski received a $1500.00 scholarship from the Orange Bowl Foundation. MAST Academy was also awarded a $1,500.00 grant from the Dade School Athletic Foundation. Paige Owens was also selected as the Miami Herald Scholar Athlete.

Congratulations to Ryan Leibowitz and Kamilah Acebal for their Honorable Mentions for Silver Knights.
We are proud of all our nominees who did an incredible job.

Alejandro Santacoloma and Ian Hoek Spaan took 2nd place in this year's FIU Wall of Wind Competition
with their design for a wind mitigating skyscraper design.  Along with 2nd place they win $250 dollars for themselves and an additional $250 for the school.

Rowing Champions

Two MAST Academy students, Senior Amaia Sanz de Acedo and Junior Adriana Viadero,
attended the Southeast Regional Rowing Championship in Gainesville, Georgia.

Amaia placed 3rd in the Varsity 4 Category which shuttles her to
Nationals. 

Adriana competed in the Light Weight 8,  placing 1st, so she will be going to
Nationals as well.

The National Rowing Championship will take place in Tennessee June 10, 2011,
the first day of summer break.

FAA Air Traffic Controller School

If you have or know kids between the ages of 18-31 with a high school
diploma, the Federal Aviation Administration is taking applications for
air traffic controller school. We all have kids and know kids in the
right age group (under 31) and with some effort they could reach a
salary of over $100,000 with benefits in about 3 years! You need only a
high school diploma to apply and credit is given for college on the
exam.

Fill out the application immediately - even if they don't know if they'd
want to attend immediately - it's the federal government and it may take
them months to call. The key is to apply NOW... There will be a lot of
retirements coming up rather quickly and they need to line up training
to accommodate these openings. It's my understanding that the FAA rarely
has an open application such as this and that the jobs are coveted.

This is a great opportunity and it should be noted that choosing a site
like Anchorage or Indianapolis to train is a likely acceptance into the
training program - after which you can transfer anywhere in the country
that has a tower. I hope you pass this information on to family &
friends.

South Florida Workforce

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

YOUNG ADULTS NEEDED...

The South Florida Workforce will assist young adults to enhance their work readiness skills and
pursue the best jobs possible for the summer. You may qualify to participate in the South Florida Workforce
Investment Board's Young Adult Summer Employment Program if you are:

Between 14-24 years of age

Live in Miami-Dade or Monroe County

A U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Low Income

The selection of youth will be
done by a lottery process.

The 8 thru 10 week program will provide young adults with summer jobs, work readiness skills and an opportunity to
earn
hospitals and community based organizations on a part-time basis earning $8 to $10 an hour.
